Samsung Galaxy S2 vs iPhone 4S

Year after year iphone has reigned supreme over all brands of smartphones, but in the year of 2011 the top product now is the popular Samsung Galaxy S2. According to Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy S2 officially hit an astonishing 10 million in sales worldwide in just 5 months after the launching of the device in April. Many other device manufacturers release new devices trying to compete with it but none succeeded. Despite the Galaxy S2 unbeatable streaks. Apple has released its new device, the iphone 4S with a number of upgraded specs and features. The Samsung Galaxy S2's reign is now shaken.

So which phone has better features and worthy of your money?

Design
We all know that design is depending on personal preferences and tastes. Some like big and some like it small. So we can't say which is better in term of design. But the Samsung Galaxy S2 is bigger, slimmer and lighter, it has a 4.3inch display and It is 4.9mm thin and It only weighs 116g. The iPhone 4s, on the other hand is quite the same is its predecessor the iPhone 4 in term of size and design; It has a smaller display of 3.5inches, thicker with 9.3mm and weighs heavier with 140g.

Display
Samsung Galaxy S II – 4.3 inches Super AMOLED Plus display
iPhone 4S – 3.5 inches IPS LCD display

There was a time when many people believed that the Samsung Galaxy S2 had the best screen ever, but now its 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen with 800 x 480 resolution doesn’t sound that cool any longer… The resolution of the iPhone 4S’s screen is higher – 960 x 640. Of course, it doesn’t mean the Galaxy S2 is outdated now or not that good any more – its screen is very bright, all the colors are eye-popping and very beautiful, and they don’t darkle or fade when you look at the screen at an angle. It’s great for watching movies and even for playing HD games (there are plenty of them in Android Market).
The iPhone 4S beats the Galaxy S II phone in terms of pixels and resolution but Galaxy S II emerges as the winner  with 4.3 inches large screen and amazing SuperAMOLED display providing higher colors and contrast ratio.

Processor
Samsung Galaxy S II – Dual Core 1.2 or 1.5 Ghz processor
iPhone 4S – A5 dual core processor

The Samsung Galaxy S2 boasts a 1.2GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor that provides really fast performance without any delay. Web browsing is very quick even via Wi-Fi network, and you won’t face any problem with loading and playing even the most “heavy” games on Samsung’s flagship.

The iPhone 4S has a 1GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, which is also very fast (much faster than the single-core processor of the original iPhone 4 at least), but, though it provides great graphical acceleration, it yields to the CPU of the Galaxy S2 in terms of performance.
Winner: Samsung Galaxy S2

Camera
Samsung Galaxy S II – 8 mega pixel rear and 2 MP front facing
iPhone 4S – 8 mega pixel rear and basic VGA camera on front

The Samsung Galaxy S2 has a cool 8MP camera with auto-focus and LED flash that takes 3264 x 2448 photos and 1080p videos at 30fps. If you remember, the original iPhone 4S had a 5MP sensor, and many geeks thought it was a big shortcoming, even though the number of megapixels doesn’t really matter. Anyway, now those geeks have received what they wanted – the new iPhone 4S has an 8MP camera able to take 3264 x 2448 pictures just like the Galaxy S2 and many other modern smartphones. Plus it has a CMOS illuminated sensor, which is 73 percent more effective and about 30 percent faster than before. And of course, it shoots 1080p HD videos, too.

However, the secondary 2MP camera of the Samsung Galaxy S2 is better than the VGA camera of the new iPhone 4S. But anyway, secondary cameras don’t play a big role here, and as for the rear-facing ones, they’re both equally good, so we have a draw here.

Operating System

Samsung Galaxy S II – Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread
iPhone 4S – iOS 5 operating system

The main deviation comes in the operating system provided by both the phones. While Android is flying high and Samsung
doesn't leave the Galaxy Series handset, the Galaxy S II phone with TouchWIZ 4.0 has broken the records and it’s the best Android mobile phone to possess. Android OS is liked by everyone because of its open source and easy customization. It’s pretty straight comparison, the iPhone 4S locks you with iOS 5 which is completely revamped with message notifications, new camera app and other changes. The Android 2.3 looks stale when compared to iOS 5 . However a clear-cut comparison between the best operating system depends on the preference of the users whether to go for open source or be with iOS.

Battery

Though battery life is not an important issue to talk about, we just thought of providing you a brief insight of phone batteries. With 1650 mAh battery on Galaxy S II, it can provide you 8 hours of talk time and same could be found on iPhone 4S with undisclosed battery specifications.
Winner: Samsung Galaxy S2

Price

No matter how good your phone is, pricing is what matters finally. Samsung Galaxy S2 is sold from $ 199 to $ 229 in contract with US carriers and unlocked device is priced at over $ 600. The iPhone 4S continues its trends and is available in various storage options, 16 GB at $ 199, 32 GB at $ 299, 64 GB priced at $ 399.

Verdict
The Samsung Galaxy S2 and the Apple iPhone 4S are both very good smartphones, no doubt, and both have their stronger and weaker sides. The Galaxy S2 is a bit faster thanks to its processor, while the iPhone 4S has quite the same as it's predecessor and Siri that has caught so much attention.

I think the Galaxy S2 is still the winner in terms of specs and value for money.
